SDC reaches milestone: Pulling the plug on old online and mobile banking solution
All banks across the Nordic region at SDC are now on the new, modern online and mobile bank, and therefore SDC is now pulling the plug on the old solution, so that all energy will be put into the new platform in the future. In 2024, the 10 SDC banks in the LOKALBANK collaboration in Norway launched the new online and mobile bank and call the new platform an important milestone for the banks in the collaboration.
In October, SDC prepared for a nerve-wracking but long-awaited exercise: The old online and mobile bank was put in the grave and the plug was pulled out completely. All banks in the collaboration across the Nordic region are now up and running on the new platform, and it is time to put all our efforts into the new solution and say goodbye to the old one.
‘It is a milestone that we can now pull the plug all the way to the old online and mobile bank. This is something we have been looking forward to for a long time and marks a shift for us, where we will put all our focus and energy into the future-proof solution and on developing new functions and opportunities on the new platform,’ says Area Director at SDC with responsibility for the online and mobile bank, Morten Vestergaard.
Online- and mobile banking is a competitive parameter
The 10 SDC banks in the LOKALBANK collaboration in Norway were finally implemented on the new online and mobile bank in the first half of 2024, and here they are pleased with the new opportunities that the new platform provides.
'Our vision is to be relationship- and future-oriented banks, which will be important supporters of our local community and our customers. An important pillar and competitive element in this is digital solutions, and here, in collaboration with SDC, we have made a major shift to a new web and mobile platform – it is a milestone for us that we can now focus on taking advantage of the many opportunities that exist. Currently, we are working to look at opportunities and potential in personalisation in relation to creating relevant and targeted communication with our customers,' says Bent R. Eidem, CEO of the LOKALBANK collaboration.
The modern platform makes it possible for bank customers to receive personal and relevant messages directly in online and mobile banking, which is based on the customers' behaviour across the entire e-bank universe across channels. In addition, the individual bank can to a greater extent brand itself with its own visual identity, and the platform is built on a foundation that makes it possible for the banks to integrate third-party solutions or their own components and thus differentiate themselves from the competition. At the same time, banks can easily turn functions on and off as they wish.
Significant channel with more than 2 million end users
The online and mobile bank is an important channel for all the banks in the SDC collaboration, with 2.5 million bank customers on SDC's online and mobile banking and on big days up to 30 logins per second.
According to Morten Vestergaard, SDC has built the platform in close collaboration with the users, and he is looking forward to being able to put all his efforts into building on and exploiting the opportunities the new platform gives the banks in the SDC collaboration.
"We will have completely new opportunities to exploit the functions that the technology of the future allows. Our platform is built on open APIs, and thus we can easily connect new modules to the platform as we get them built or purchased, just as the banks in the collaboration can develop individual features themselves," says Morten Vestergaard. At the same time, the ability to send personalised messages and targeted offers is an important competitive parameter for banks.
SDC launched the new online and mobile bank in 2019, where Danish banks were among the first to test and provide feedback on the new platform. Initially, it was targeted at private customers, but since then the business part has also been connected, just as both the Faroese, Swedish and also the Norwegian banks have moved to the platform for both private and business customers. At the end of September, the last individual account numbers and customers were transferred to the new platform, and in October, SDC pulled the plug all the way to the old system.
